Chiasmus in Ephesians
Another feature of the letter to the Ephesians is carefully constructed chiasms (inverted parallels)—although these literary patterns should be “observed” and “not construed” into texts (regardless of Heil, Ephesians). The chiasm in the chart below (on Eph 2:11–22) shows the transformation of Gentile identity by Christ’s central work for inclusion among God’s people and transformed into a sacred, temple dwelling of God (see discussion in Long, “Ephesians”). Other examples of such may be identified in 3:1–13, 4:7–16, and 5:23–24.
