Perfection in God’s Person
God is the standard of perfection in the Bible. Although the Old Testament does not explicitly describe God as perfect, it does describe His work (Deut 32:4), way (2 Sam 22:31; Pss 18:30), and knowledge (Job 36:4) as perfect (תָּמִים, tamim). The New Testament explicitly describes God as perfect. For example, in Matt 5:48, Jesus calls His followers to “be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (ESV). Romans 12:2 also describes God’s will as perfect (τέλειος, teleios). Hebrews describes Jesus as being made perfect (τελειόω, teleioō) through suffering (Heb 2:10; 5:8–9).
