Extrabiblical References to Jehoash
The Rimah Stela, an Assyrian stele of Adad-nirari III, found at Tell al Rimah in 1967, probably mentions Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz in line 8: “He received the tribute of Ia’asu (Jehoash) the Samaritan” (Page, “A Stela of Adad-nirari III,” 143). Here Jehoash is listed among those who brought tribute to the Assyrians. Adad-nirari III may have been the “savior” bringing them freedom from Aramean oppression (2 Kings 13:5).
