Bath (בַּת, bath). A liquid measurement in ancient Israel; equal to one-tenth of a homer (Ezek 45:10–14). One bath was approximately 6 gallons (or 26 liters). The bronze basins in Solomon’s temple held 40 baths each, and the “molten sea” held at least 2,000 (1 Kgs 7:26, 38; in 2 Chr 4:5, the “molten sea” is said to hold 3,000 baths). Quantities of oil and wine also are reported in baths (e.g., 2 Chr 2:10; Isa 5:10).
