Ahitub, Son of Amariah (אֲחִיטוּב, achituv). A priest and descendant of Levi. Ahitub was the son of Amariah and father of Zadok, who was a priest during the reign of David (2 Sam 8:17; 1 Chr 6:7–8). The sequence of priests named Amariah, Ahitub, and Zadok appears twice in the priestly genealogy of 1 Chr 6:1–15. The Ahitub named in the second sequence is likely Ahitub, “the chief officer of the house of God” (1 Chr 9:11; Neh 11:11).
