Chapter 1 THE THEOLOGY OF DEUTERONOMY Good general accounts of the theology of Deuteronomy are readily available1 and this is not an attempt to add to them. Our particular concern is to highlight those aspects of the theology of the book which will serve to illustrate the function of the laws. A primary concern will be to assess in what sense and to what extent a concept of covenant may be said to be reflected in the laws.
