times.—עוֹנֵן, according to some authorities, a denom. verb from עָנָן = a cloud, and this sense has been followed by the A. V.; according to Rabbinical authorities, however, it is from עַיִן = the eye, and means to bewitch with an evil eye. In either case the general sense is in accordance with the preceding clause: to rely upon occult arts for the accomplishment of one’s purposes.
