Beyond the prologue (Gen 1:1–2:3), Genesis is divided by its superscription formula, “these are the generations of,” into ten sections beginning successively at the following verses: 2:4; 5:1; 6:9; 10:1; 11:10; 11:27; 25:12; 25:19; 36:1 (cf. v. 9); and 37:2.
