“Let no man deceive you,” Paul says, “by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first …” There are seven words for “deceive” in the New Testament. This one is exapataō. It means “to deceive wholly,” or “to delude thoroughly.” The Thessalonians were in danger of swallowing Satan’s lie, hook, line, and sinker.
