Mark wished to indicate that with Jesus the waiting time came to an end and the kingdom of God broke into history, but did Jesus himself think that? Here the exegetes are divided. Trilling is uncertain.17 Reploh is quite clear: the church of Mark’s day understood that the old time had ended and the era of the kingdom of God had begun with Jesus, but Jesus himself understood that the old time ended with his proclamation and the new was impending.
