The Ruling Authorities (2:13–17)* Teaching about the Christian and the state is not too plentiful in the New Testament. It is basically confined to Mark 12:14–17 (and parallels), Romans 13:1–7; 1 Timothy 2:1–3; Titus 3:1–3 and the present passage. In the epistles the teaching is repeatedly about the necessity to submit to the state authorities, whose task is to preserve law and order.
