Pope Paul VI’s 1968 encyclical Humanae Vitae addresses marriage, sexuality and the regulation of births. It reiterates Catholic teaching on the procreative and unitive purposes of marital relations and, based on this, reaffirms traditional Catholic teaching against contraception.
