Hellenistic philosophy and interpretation as a means of exploring and revealing the depth and power of the Jewish Scriptures. Among the Greek philosophers, Philo was especially fond of Plato, and it was from the Stoics that he learned methods of interpreting revered texts. Indeed, so thoroughly versed was Philo in both Judaism and Hellenistic philosophy that scholars could easily debate whether he was principally driven by the world of Judaism or by the world of Greek philosophy and interpretation.
