Mark Allan Powell Narrative criticism focuses on stories in biblical literature and attempts to read these stories with insights drawn from the secular field of modern literary criticism. The goal is to determine the effects that the stories are expected to have on their audience. In NT studies, narrative criticism is practiced with primary reference to the four Gospels and the Book of Acts.1 No one will doubt that these books relate stories, but literary-critical insights
