The Difficult Made Easy There is something strange about the call of God. We think it is hard and demanding. But it may well be joyful and light. St. Francis knew all about this strange way of God. He testifies, “When I was in sin it seemed too bitter to me to see lepers. And the Lord Himself led me among them. And when I left them, what had seemed bitter to me was turned into sweetness of soul and body.”315 We tend to think the call of God is only ever the demand of God.
