The description of a deity likened to a lion is also known from the Bible (for example, Hos 5:14*; 11:10–11*; 13:7–8*)59 as well as from Egyptian60 and Mesopotamian sources,61 with many of the verbs designating the sound of the roaring common to the “roar” of the gods as well as to the “roar” of lions.62 In
