But if, likewise, something seems to attentive listeners to need explaining, why it is said he [Sisera] “drank milk,” after he had requested water,43 let us see whether perhaps according to mystical and allegorical rules some such thing can be revealed also about this. The nourishment “of milk” is, it is said in the holy Scriptures, this first moral instruction which is handed on to beginners as if to “young children.”44 For, in the beginning, instruction concerning the profound and more hidden
