In short, Eden is a place where God, who is spirit, profoundly dwells spiritually with human beings.14 Genesis depicts the state of dwelling with God in terms of luxuriant and glorious life and of a river that generates life and wealth wherever it flows. Dwelling with God, man receives all kinds of beneficent gifts from God’s active presence of wisdom and love. Thus, dwelling with God is described throughout the Bible in terms of material bounty.
