The definite article is commonly used to emphasize a specific person, place, or thing especially in cases where one of those things has already been mentioned. Example: In Gen 1:3 “Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light” Then in Gen 1:4 “And God saw that the light was good.” Hebrew has no indefinite article. Therefore, if a word does not have a definite article, it is indefinite. Thus דָּבָר can mean “a word” or “word.” Examples: דָּבָר “word” הַדָּבָר
