The Hiphil form is commonly understood to be the causative stem and yet since some Piel forms also carry that idea, scholars wonder what is the specific difference between the two stems. It seems most plausible that the primary difference is that the Piel emphasizes the bringing about of a state or condition, whereas the Hiphil emphasizes the idea of causing an event.
