A direct object is a person or thing that receives the action of the verb. The definite direct object is sometimes marked by the particle אֵת or אֶת־ so that it can be recognized as the direct object of the verb. Examples: אֵת הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם “the heavens” אֵת הָאוֹר “the light” אֶת־הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם “the heavens” אֶת־הָאוֹר “the light” This particle always indicates that a definite noun used as a direct object is immediately following. The noun may contain a definite
