that verbs are not primarily concerned either with time or with objectified action, but with a subjective perspective on action. This has come to be called aspect theory. The first full-scale treatment of aspect theory to appear in English, written from a modern linguistic perspective, was published in 1976,32 and since that time there have been a number of other valuable treatments published, including several applying aspect theory in various ways to the Greek of the New Testament. Early studies
