The Holy Spirit is the agent of the filling, whether special/sovereign or normal. The Holy Spirit is the One who works quietly behind the scene, who gives us the power and ability to live in accordance with the Lord’s norms and standards, producing in us Christ-like behavior. Christ Jesus is the focus of the believer’s relationship with God. This relationship is evident by growth in terms of “the fruit of the Spirit.” We see this in the parallel passage to Ephesians 5:18, that is, Colossians 3:15–16.
