The latter is what God wants, as the Bible clearly shows; and innocence could not become righteousness until it had been tested and man had been given the opportunity of exercising his will God-ward. This is what God sought in the Garden of Eden. The age of innocence was that period of time during which man did not exercise his will either in one way or in another.
