understanding of their present life in Christ; and as often happens with such presuppositional matters, one rarely looks at them reflectively. They are simply part of the “stuff” of ongoing life; and what one says about such matters is often off-handed, matter-of-fact, and without considered articulation. As a result, trying to write a “theology of the Spirit” in Paul can be a somewhat tenuous affair. In any case, we must try to wrestle not only with what Paul says explicitly, but with some of the
