A second factor in Christ’s fitness to be our Advocate is His relation to us. Note the human name “Jesus.” Bearing our nature, He can plead our case with full knowledge and deep sympathy. (Compare Heb. 4:15.) A third factor is Christ’s own personal sinlessness (cf. Heb. 7:26). He is “Jesus Christ the righteous.” As such “He can enter the Presence from which all sin excludes. He needs no advocate for Himself” (Brooke, p. 27). The Greek is so arranged that emphasis is placed on the word for “righteous.”
