. In Ephesians, as in no other of his Epistles, Paul seems to teach on his knees. This characteristic is particularly true of the first three chapters, where the great doctrinal discussion is cast in the form of a devotional meditation. A. H. Strong, in his Systematic Theology (Valley Forge: Judson Press, n.d.), speaks of this portion of the book as having a “psalmodic” quality. Bruce sees in the letter “an inspired mood of meditative adoration and prayer” (p. 15).
