Greek. Beginning in the third century B.C.E. and probably beginning with the books of Moses, the Hebrew and Aramaic Scriptures were translated into Greek. Much of this translation was probably done in Egypt, especially Alexandria, but some of it may have taken place in other locations, including Israel itself. By the first century C.E. the Law and the Prophets were probably widely circulated in Greek. The NT writers quoted the Greek version more often than any other version. Not surprisingly, the
