Solomon is in that line of promise. The Old Testament texts trace his genealogy all the way back to Adam. Obviously he does not turn out to be the one who ultimately fulfills the promise, but he was in the line of expectation and became a type of the one to come (cf. Matt. 12:42). Given the Scripture that would have been available to Solomon, a case can be made that Solomon understood that he was—at least in part—causing the promises to come to pass, by building the temple, for instance.
