signified that the total responsibility was His. Abraham was not a party to the covenant, but a recipient of it and a vehicle for its fulfillment. The conditions and obligations were God’s alone. Abraham was secure in the eternal plan of God. Why? Because God is true to His Word and faithful to fulfill His covenant promises. In all the universe only He can say, “Surely, just as I have intended so it has happened, and just as I have planned so it will stand” (Isa. 14:24).
