Satan is called Lucifer in Isaiah, and indeed, that was his name before he fell. Lucifer means “Day Star”; this name refers to his high position in the heavenly host before his fall. Satan means “enemy,” which is what he is now—an enemy to everything and everybody. Satan’s two chief sins were pride and rebellion, two sins which are frequently together.
