Another particularly striking example of Jewish “argument” in the second edition is found in the structure of the Bread-of-Life discourse in 6:30–59. As Borgen has shown, the structure of this discourse bears a remarkable resemblance to the typical structure of first-century Jewish exegetical homilies.104 The parallels will be explained in detail in the Commentary itself and so will not be given here. However, the parallels are remarkable especially when allowances are made for the shift from monologue
