apostle originated with Paul, it should be noted that he writes of “those who were apostles before me” (Gk: tous pro emou apostolous). These apostles were located in Jerusalem (Gal 1:17). The creedal tradition (see Creed) which he repeats to the Corinthians, and which he “received” many years before, mentioned that the risen Lord appeared [in Palestine] “to all the apostles” before he appeared to Paul (1 Cor 15:7, 8), suggesting that there were “apostles” at or close to the time of Jesus’ resurrection.
