Jesus Christ or phrases such as “the [our] Lord Jesus Christ” in early Christian literature are too numerous to list and add little to our perspective of how the authors understood these phrases. We will instead concentrate on some of the important usages carried over from the NT period as well as some of the new and distinctive ways the term Christ is used. In some early Christian documents the term Christos appears hardly at all. In the Epistle to Barnabas Jesus is frequently referred to, but the
