Having this precommitment to the poor reverses theology as it is traditionally approached. Rather than beginning with theological foundations, or the Bible or tradition, liberation theologians begin with praxis among the poor. Praxis is the first step of theology. Reading the Bible—the second step of theology—with a commitment to praxis results in two developments.
