Tennent, Gilbert (1703–1764). Presbyterian minister and revivalist during the Great Awakening. Born in County Armagh, Ireland, Gilbert was the eldest son of William Tennent. The Tennent family immigrated to the American colonies in 1718. Gilbert studied at Yale, receiving his M.A. in 1725. In that same year he was licensed by the Presbytery of Philadelphia.
