Stoddard, Solomon (1643–1729). Colonial minister. Born in Boston and educated at Harvard (1662), Stoddard was the second pastor of the Congregational church in Northampton, Massachusetts. The town was small in 1672 when he arrived, but by the 1720s his strong leadership was felt throughout the Connecticut Valley, and the church grew to be the largest outside of Boston.
