Preacher. A person, usually of the ordained clergy, who regularly preaches sermons. The term is usually used to refer to an ordained minister of nonliturgical religious groups in which preaching is the primary public function of the clergy. In certain contexts, most notably in the South, a male minister might be addressed as “Preacher” or referred to as “the Preacher.” In other contexts, such as urban and suburban white churches, the term is used to refer to one of the several roles of an ordained
