Prayer Meeting Revival (1857–1859). The revival originated in the noon prayer meetings begun by Jeremiah Lanphier on September 23, 1857, in the Dutch Reformed Church on Fulton Street in New York City. Beginning with six persons praying, the revival of 1857 to 1859 attained proportions that have prompted some students of revivals to term it a major awakening.
