Holiness. In Christian theology the term holiness first of all describes God’s unblemished moral character and majesty. Objects, institutions and people may be holy inasmuch as they are consecrated to God, separated from that which is unclean and renewed for holy use. But in each case their holiness is derivative from God. For the people of God, holiness may describe either the condition of being holy or the process by which a person is brought to that state.
