Edwards, Jonathan (1703–1758). Colonial Congregational preacher and theologian. Born in East Windsor, Connecticut, and educated at Yale College (B.A., 1720; M.A., 1722), Edwards apprenticed for two years under his grandfather, Solomon Stoddard, who had a powerful ministry, and in 1729 became the sole preacher of the Congregational Church in Northampton, Massachusetts.
