Camp Meeting. An outdoor revival meeting, inter-denominational in origin, during which the participants came prepared to encamp at the meeting site for several days. While outdoor preaching was a feature of the Great Awakening and early American Methodism, the camp meeting proper developed in Kentucky under the auspices of Presbyterian revivalists. The first of these was at Gasper River in Logan County (July 1800), led by James McGready, followed by Cane Ridge in Bourbon County (August 1801), directed
