It is interesting that the name Goliath means “soothsayer,” which seems to indicate that he dealt with the occult, with that which was demonic. But we identify Goliath more with his size—he was a great hulk of a man with unmatched physical strength. We are told that he measured six cubits, so if we are accurate about the length of a cubit, Goliath must have been somewhere around nine feet and one span, a span being about nine inches. So he was not Mr. Five Feet–Five Inches but Mr. Nine Feet–Nine
