5. “While I am in the world …” I interpret this as having been added by way of anticipation. For it might have seemed absurd that Christ should fix his time of working in advance, as if there were danger that he, like others, would be overtaken by the “night.” Thus he makes this distinction between himself and others, to say that his time for work also is limited. For he compares himself with the sun, which gives light to the earth with its brightness, but when it sets, takes the day away with it.
