The Book of Judges records the Israelites’ descent into sin and the terrible consequences. The 12 heroes of the book seem larger than life but were imperfect, just as we are, which makes this book just as relevant today. Judges is a stern reminder that God punishes sin but is always ready to forgive the repentant sinner back.

these and other such states of life could very well be used to give greater glory to God, but too frequently, they result in complacency and spiritual sloth. They seduce us into attaching ourselves to the pleasing (albeit temporary) things of the world we can see, while distancing ourselves from the blessings and eternal promises of the God we cannot see.
