3 Yes, in those days and at that time,
when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,aj
2 I will gather all the nationsak
and take them to the Valley of Jehoshaphat.B,al
I will enter into judgment with them theream
because of my people, my inheritance Israel.
The nations have scattered the Israelites
in foreign countriesa
and divided up my land.b
3 They cast lots for my people;c
they bartered a boy for a prostitute
and sold a girl for wine to drink.d
4 And also: Tyre,e Sidon, and all the territories of Philistiaf—what are you to me? Are you paying me back or trying to get even with me? I will quickly bring retribution on your heads.g 5 For you took my silver and gold and carried my finest treasuresh to your temples. 6 You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeksi to remove them far from their own territory. 7 Look, I am about to rouse them up from the place where you sold them;j I will bring retribution on your heads. 8 I will sell your sons and daughters to the people of Judah,k and they will sell them to the Sabeans,A,l to a distant nation, for the Lord has spoken.
9 Proclaim this among the nations:m
Prepare for holy war;n
rouse the warriors;o
let all the men of war advance and attack!
10 Beat your plows into swords
and your pruning knives into spears.p
Let even the weakling say, “I am a warrior.”
11 Come quickly,B all you surrounding nations;
gather yourselves.q
Bring down your warriors there, Lord.r
and come to the Valley of Jehoshaphat,
for there I will sit down
to judge all the surrounding nations.s
because the harvest is ripe.t
Come and trample the grapes
because the winepress is full;u
the wine vats overflow
because the wickedness of the nations is extreme.v
14 Multitudes, multitudesw
in the valley of decision!
For the day of the Lord is nearx
in the valley of decision.
15 The sun and moon will grow dark,
and the stars will cease their shining.y
16 The Lord will roar from Zionz
and make his voice heard from Jerusalem;aa
heaven and earth will shake.ab
But the Lord will be a refuge for his people,ac
a stronghold for the Israelites.ad
17 Then you will know
that I am the Lord your God,ae
who dwells in Zion, my holy mountain.af
Jerusalem will be holy,ag
and foreigners will never overrun it again.ah
the mountains will drip with sweet wine,ai
and the hills will flow with milk.aj
All the streams of Judah will flow with water,ak
and a spring will issue from the Lord’s house,al
watering the Valley of Acacias.C,am
19 Egypt will become desolate,
and Edom a desert wasteland,
because of the violence done to the people of Judahan
in whose land they shed innocent blood.
20 But Judah will be inhabited forever,ao
and Jerusalem from generation to generation.
21 I will pardon their bloodguilt,D,ap
which I have not pardoned,
for the Lord dwells in Zion.
About Christian Standard BibleThe Christian Standard Bible (CSB) is a highly trustworthy, faithful translation that is proven to be the optimal blend of accuracy and readability. It’s as literal to the original as possible without sacrificing clarity. The CSB is poised to become the translation that pastors rely on and Bible readers turn to again and again to read and to share with others. The CSB is an original translation: more than 100 scholars from 17 denominations translated directly from the best available Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic source texts into English. Its source texts are the standard used by scholars and seminaries today. The CSB is trustworthy: the conservative, evangelical scholars of the CSB affirm the authority of Scripture as the inerrant Word of God and seek the highest level of faithfulness to the original and accuracy in their translation. These scholars and LifeWay, the non-profit ministry that stewards the CSB, also champion the Bible against cultural trends that would compromise its truths. The CSB is clear: it is as literal a translation of the ancient source texts as possible, but, in the many places throughout Scripture where a word-for-word rendering might obscure the meaning for a modern audience, it uses a more dynamic translation. In all cases, the intent is to convey the original meaning of God’s Word as faithfully and as clearly as possible. |
