throughout this Gospel, the Twelve retain their importance, right up through the final invitation to see their Lord after his resurrection, when he precedes them to Galilee (16:7). Note that, much more than it is in the Gospel of Mark, the special status of the Twelve is very apparent in the Gospel of Luke; see especially Lk 22:28–30. This analysis does, however, raise the question of the character of the giver of the water in 9:41 (or in the congruent text in Matthew, the one who gives the food,
