Then in Matthew 26 and 28, Jesus establishes the Lord’s Supper and baptism, which is how churches use the keys and grant assurance to gospel confessors. Baptism is the first word of public assurance that other people agree with your profession. That’s why a church baptizes you into the “name” of Father, Son, and Spirit (28:19). “Here’s the team jersey!” The Lord’s Supper then offers that assurance on an ongoing basis.
