means by which Christians may grow in sanctification, counseling cannot be effective (in any biblical sense of that term) apart from the use of the Scriptures. The fact of the Holy Spirit in counseling, therefore, implies the presence of the Holy Scriptures as well.1 This fundamental relationship in itself should be decisive for any Christian who carefully thinks through the counseling situation.
