In other words, when we talk about proverbs in the English language, we typically refer to very short, catchy statements: “haste makes waste”; “a stitch in time saves nine”; “the early bird catches the worm.” And what we have in Prov 10–31 is the Hebrew equivalent. We’ll talk more about that analogy later, but right now I just want to introduce the fact that Prov 10–31 contains those types of instructional literature.
